Trex Deck Installation in LaSalle and Peru, IL

4.9 ★★★★★ 233 Google reviews across Peru and Morris

The composite brand most people ask for by name, installed by a crew that has put down a lot of it.

Why the brand matters

Half the Composite Sold Is Not Worth Buying

Matthew talks about this on video. A homeowner asks for Trex, the contractor quotes Trex, and what goes down is an off brand composite that warps in the sun and turns a new deck into a tripping hazard.

The word composite covers a huge range of quality. Naming the brand on the quote is how you know what you are getting, and it is why we put the product line in writing before anything is ordered.

The product lines

What Changes Between One Trex Line and the Next

They all install the same way. What differs is the shell, the grain and how long the warranty runs.

  • Entry Level LinesA composite core with a protective shell on three sides. The lowest cost way into the brand and still a long way ahead of uncapped board.
  • Mid Range LinesFully capped on all four sides with more color variation in the board. The most common choice for a family back yard.
  • Premium LinesDeeper grain, multi tonal boards and the longest fade and stain coverage. Worth it where the deck is the feature of the yard.
  • Board ColorsGrays, browns, warm reds and weathered tones. Darker boards run hotter in full afternoon sun, which is worth knowing before you pick.
  • Matching RailingRail systems built to pair with the board line, plus aluminum and cable options where you would rather keep the view.
  • Fascia and TrimMatching fascia board wraps the frame so the edge of the deck does not show pressure treated lumber.

How we install it

The Warranty Only Holds If It Was Installed Right

Manufacturer warranties on composite decking have conditions attached. Joist spacing, gapping between boards, and fastener type all have to meet spec. Get those wrong and the coverage does not apply.

  • Joist spacing to the board spec. Composite needs tighter spacing than wood, and it changes again for a diagonal layout.
  • Proper gapping end to end. The boards expand and contract with temperature. No gap means buckling in July.
  • Hidden fasteners rated for the line. The clip system is part of the spec, not a detail to substitute on the day.

The plan

How a Trex Deck Build Actually Runs

The build is the same as any composite deck. The difference is what gets named on the paperwork.

Pick the Line and the Color

We bring board samples out. Which Trex line you want changes the price more than the square footage does, so this comes first.

Written Quote With the Product Named

The quote states the exact line and color going down. If a contractor will not do that, you have your answer about what they plan to install.

Frame to the Board Spec

Joists get spaced for the line we are installing. Ledger flashed, footings below the frost line, fascia ready to wrap.

Install, Register and Hand Over

Boards go down on the rated clip system with correct gapping, then we register the warranty and hand you the paperwork.

Buy the Line You Wanted. Pay Over Time.

People downgrade the board line to hit a budget more often than they shrink the deck. 0% financing means you do not have to make that trade.

Common questions

Trex Questions from LaSalle County Homeowners

Is Trex worth the extra over cheaper composite?

In our experience yes, mostly because of the shell and the warranty behind it. Cheap composite is the material we get called out to replace, which tells you something.

How do I know I am actually getting Trex?

Ask for the product line and color in writing on the quote, and ask to see the packaging on delivery day. We put it on the quote without being asked.

Does Trex get hot?

Darker boards do in full sun, the same as any dark surface. Lighter colors stay noticeably cooler underfoot.

What does the warranty actually cover?

Fade and stain coverage plus a structural warranty, with terms that vary by line. It is a manufacturer warranty, so installation has to meet their spec for it to hold.

Can Trex go over my existing frame?

Only if the joist spacing meets the spec for the board and the frame is sound. We check both before quoting rather than after.

Do you install other composite brands?

Yes. Trex is the one people ask for by name, but we install several. We will tell you what the real difference is rather than just upselling.
