Why put one in the yard
Most of the Yard Never Gets Used
Everything happens within twenty feet of the back door. The far end of the lot is grass you mow and nothing else, even on a lot with a view or a mature tree worth sitting under.
A gazebo gives the rest of the yard a reason to exist. Somewhere shaded to walk out to, put a hot tub in, or sit with the house behind you instead of in front of you.

Shape, roof and what goes underneath are the three decisions that set the price.
- OctagonalThe traditional shape. Works well freestanding in open lawn where it is seen from every side.
- RectangularMore usable floor space for a table or a seating group, and easier to site against a fence line or a tree.
- ScreenedEnclosed with screen so the whole thing works in July without mosquitoes running the evening.
- Hot Tub GazebosBuilt to carry the weight and with clearance overhead. The framing is different from a seating gazebo and has to be planned that way.
- On a Deck or SlabBuilt onto an existing deck or a poured slab, or set on its own footings with a wood floor built in.
- Fans, Lighting and PowerRun through the frame during the build rather than surface mounted later.
How we build them
Freestanding Means Nothing Else Holds It Up
A gazebo out in the middle of a lawn has no wall to lean on and nothing sheltering it from wind. Every load goes into its own posts and footings, which is why kit gazebos tend to shift after a couple of winters.
- Its own footings below the frost line. One heaved post pulls the whole roof structure out of square.
- Roof framed for snow load. A gazebo roof is small but steep loads build up fast after an Illinois storm.
- Built on site, not assembled from a box. Which means it can be sized to the spot rather than the spot chosen to fit the kit.

A roofed structure usually needs a permit. Footings go below the frost line, sized for the roof and anything heavy going inside.
Frame, Roof and Floor
Posts, roof structure and roofing, then the floor if it is not going onto an existing deck or slab.

Any screening, fans and lighting get fitted, then we walk it with you before we leave.

Gazebo Questions from LaSalle County Homeowners
Gazebo or pergola?
A gazebo is a destination with a solid roof and usually its own floor. A pergola is an open structure that defines a space you already have. If you want somewhere to walk out to, you want a gazebo.
Can it go over a hot tub?
Yes, and it is one of the most common requests. The framing and clearance are different from a seating gazebo, so it needs planning from the start.
Does it need a permit?
Usually yes, since it is a roofed structure with footings. We check your village code and handle it.
Screened or open?
Screened costs more and gets used far more in July and August. If mosquitoes are the reason your yard goes unused after seven, screen it.
How long does it take?
Less than a deck. Most gazebos are a few days on site once the footings have cured.
Can you run power out to it?
Yes, and it is worth doing during the build. Wiring runs through the frame instead of being surface mounted later.
