Wood Fence Installation in LaSalle and Peru, IL
4.9 ★★★★★ 233 Google reviews across Peru and Morris
Cedar and pressure treated fencing built to last, with an honest conversation about what keeping it looking good actually takes.

Being straight with you
Wood Is the Best Looking Fence. It Is Also the Most Work.
Nothing else has the grain and the warmth of real cedar, and nothing else can be built to any shape you want on site. That is why people still ask for it.
It also needs sealing every few years, and boards move as they dry. We would rather tell you that now than have you find out in year three. If that trade is fine with you, wood is a great choice.

Your options
Wood Fence Styles We Build Around Peru and LaSalle
Wood is cut and built on site, so the layout is far more flexible than a panel system.
- Cedar PrivacyWestern red cedar, naturally resistant to rot and insects. Leave it to weather silver or seal it to hold the color.
- Pressure Treated PrivacyThe lower cost route. Treated pine holds up fine in the ground and takes stain well once it has dried out.
- Board on BoardBoards overlapped rather than butted, so when the wood shrinks there is still no line of sight through the fence.
- Shadow BoxAlternating boards on either side of the rail. Looks the same from both sides and lets air pass through on a windy lot.
- Horizontal SlatBoards run sideways instead of vertically. A modern look that suits newer builds and works well as a patio screen.
- Custom Gates and ArborsBuilt on site, so an arched gate or a gate arbor over a walkway is a matter of cutting it that way.
How we build it
Most Wood Fences Fail at the Post, Not the Board
People blame the wood when a fence leans, but the board is rarely the problem. It is a post that did not go deep enough, or one set straight into dirt instead of concrete.
- Posts go below the frost line in concrete. That is the single thing that decides whether a wood fence is standing straight in ten years.
- Screws, not nails. Nails work loose as boards expand and contract through the seasons. Screws hold.
- Gates get built to carry their own weight. A heavy cedar gate needs bracing and proper hardware or it will drag within a year.

The plan
How a Wood Fence Install Actually Runs
Wood is built on site rather than ordered as panels, which changes the shape of the job.
Walk the Line and Pick the Lumber
Cedar or pressure treated, privacy or shadow box, and how tall. Lumber choice changes the price more than anything else here.
Plat Check, Permit and JULIE
We confirm the line against your plat, pull the permit and get utilities marked before any digging starts.
Set Posts and Let Them Cure
Posts go in below the frost line in concrete and cure before a single rail goes on. This is the step other people skip.
Build the Fence on Site
Rails, then boards, then gates, all cut and fitted on your property. We clean up the offcuts and walk the finished run with you.
Build It in Cedar. Pay Over Time.
Cedar costs more than treated pine and looks it. With 0% financing you can build the fence you actually wanted rather than the one that fit this month.

Common questions
Wood Fence Questions from LaSalle County Homeowners
Cedar or pressure treated?
Cedar costs more, looks better and resists rot naturally. Pressure treated is cheaper and perfectly solid, but it needs to dry out before it takes stain. If budget is the deciding factor, treated is the honest answer.
How often does a wood fence need sealing?
Every two to three years in this climate to hold the color. You can also just let it weather to gray and do nothing, which plenty of people do.
How much does a wood fence cost?
Usually less up front than vinyl and more over ten years once you count staining. Linear feet, height, lumber choice and gate count set the number.
Will the boards warp?
Some movement is normal as wood dries. Board on board and shadow box layouts are designed so that movement does not open up a line of sight.
Can you build a custom shape or an arbor?
Yes, and this is where wood beats every panel system. It is all cut on site, so arched gates and arbors are straightforward.
Do you repair existing wood fences?
Yes. Send a photo and we will tell you honestly whether it is a few boards and a post or whether you are better off replacing the run.
